BMW M3 E92
A new M3 based on the E92 3-series coupe was debuted by BMW at the 2007 Geneva Auto Show. Although it will look similar to 335i E92 just with extended taillights, new front and rear facia, and possibly marks on the front quarter panels like the E46 M3. The E92 M3 will be powered by a 4.0l V8 engine based on the 5.0l V10 found in the M5/M6 instead of the inline-6 engine as used in the past two generations of M3. The engine will produce at least 420 horsepower at 8,300 rpm, and peak torque will be 295lb-ft at 3,900 rpm - an increase of 77 hp and 25lb-ft over the previous M3, which represents a power increase of 22% over the E46 M3. The new V8 in the M3 weighs 33 pounds less then the outgoing six cylinder. The styling follows the trend of slightly more aggressive M cars as started by the E60 M5. The concept sports quad exhaust pipes as well as a version of M5-style vents behind the front wheels and a revised front air dam. A six-speed manual transmission will be standard, which is a reworked version of the outgoing model's six-speed gearbox fitted with a lower 3.86:1 final drive. While an SMG transmission was initially expected to be available as an option later, BMW is said to be planning the introduction of an all-new double-clutch gearbox, titled ZSG, a year after the release of the E92 M3. The entire roof of the car will be made of carbon fiber. It is predicted to be sold in the United States starting in the middle of next year.
