 E34 Electrical Fire

our 1993 525i had been running fine until yesterday, when it caught on fire, presumably started by an electrical malfunction (right before it happened the windows and sunroof stopped working).
I couldn't find any recalls on this model for electrical reasons.
Does anyone know if bmw would be willing to do something about the damage, based on claims or complaints they've heard of? I know and can attest to the fact that many bmws are prone to electrical problems.

That is awful. First time I've heard of an e34 catching fire from an electrical problem.

There is a master fuse (fuseable link). If it blows, the windows and sunroof stop working. Possibly something made that blow.

Doesn't hurt to ask though I doubt BMWNA will do anything for you. The car warranty expired about 10 years ago.

You certainly should report this to BMW so they are aware of the problem.
You should also report it to NHTSA.

Do you have comprehensive insurance on the car? It might be covered.

Please keep us posted.
