Are people on street less tolerant with BMW owners?

I have had my E39 for less than a year and since I bought it, I have noticed that people on the road are less tolerant with me. I've been yelled at, shown the finger, honked the horn when doing simple stuff like changing lanes. And it is not that I drive like a maniac or something. And I always use the signals.
What surprises me is that I've driven my SUV on the same roads and I've never received such treatment doing the same.

Are people on roads just less tolerant with BMW owners?

What's the old "man in the street" joke - What's the difference between a porcupine and a BMW? With a BMW, the prick is on the inside.

That reminds me of the Harley joke:

What's the difference between a Harley and a Hoover? With the Hoover the dirtbag is on the inside.

Don't tell my Harley-owning friends

Funny, I was driving my aunt around in my car and a e39 cuts me off. And she said "I hate BMW owners they think that they are all that", then she asked me what car was I driving. ha ha that was classic.

I had a cop stop me over an inspection sticker being past due and say to me.."just because you drive a BMW you think you can get away with everything" I told him that was one of the most prejudice things I heard today and that if he keeps it up I will have him in court over this sh*** a** prejudicial ticket.

He gave me an angry stare for what seemed like a long time, while he was deciding what to do, then he walked away and drove away.
