Are my brakes safe to drive with no clip?

I've just returned from having new front discs and pads and noticed that a clip is missing from one side on the front. I dont know what the clip is for. I have a 600 mile journey tomorrow. Is is essential?

I'd stop by a dealer and pick up a clip. They hold the outer pad in place. It won't fall out without the clip, but it would probably wear unevenly and make a lot of noise.

Problem is its sunday tomorrow and the parts dept is closed.

The clip exists for the exclusive purpose of reducing noise. It's completely unnecessary for the functionality of the brakes.
