The lease on my current 2003 325iT is up in about 4 to 5 months so I'm looking around a bit. I have my eyes set to either a 2004 M3 or a 2003 745i. Last Sunday I was in the San Fernando Valley, my wife was at a baby shower and I thought let me check out this BMW here in the Valley. Walked in and was greeted very nicely by this sales guy. Told him my plans and he told me about a Dark Blue 745i with Tan leather and a Imola Red M3 that he has on the lot. I said can I see those vehicles, he walks back to his computer and pulls them up online...?? I said no I want to see them in real. Then he said it's too warm I'm not going outside... He proceeded to give me his business card but I refused it. I told him I'm going over to my current dealer because I don't want to buy a car from you... WTF...
So went to my dealer Assael in Monrovia and Byron took me out in a 745i and a M3, now I remember that he is a great sales guy and very knowlegable on our great BMW cars... I will pull the trigger a little later in the year...

He said he didn't want to go outside, because it was too hot? You should've told him that you'll go and get him some ice cubes to stick in his....

Yep you are right, I'm in sales myself and when my manager finds out that I will not go to a customer or prospect because it's too hot, he will fire me on the spot...
I'm very temped to call the sales manager and tell him about this thing...

I drove to Bob Smith in Calabasas to buy a car. Told the salesman who'd taken me on a test drive, "I'd like to buy the car now." Said he was busy and could I come back tomorrow.

Against my better judgment, I did. He declined my offer, so I went to Valencia BMW, where Curtis did the deal in 10 minutes and started with a better offer than I had put on the table at Bob Smith.

The salesman from Bob Smith called back the next day; apparently his sales manager had "reconsidered" and was ready to take my offer. A sales tactic? If so, obviously a bad one.

Sending a customer away can't possibly be a "sales tactic." Fortunately, for every salesperson like these, there are some really really good ones who love the product and are a pleasure to deal with.

Just to clarify -- what I suspect to have been a sales tactic was not sending me away the first day, but declining my offer and then calling back. This sort of behavior is depressingly predictable from car dealers. Unfortunately for them, I don't respond well to the tactic, and I assume that "no means no," just as my "no means no." Sending me away the first day was just stupid.
