Just ordered my first BMW (328i sedan, crimson red, black interior, sport, L7) on the weekend. They'll be building it and it should be here by end of May.
I'm fairly new to this forum and noticed a lot of references to the new car's "production number".
Few questions...
1) I assume the dealer provides this ?
2) How long from order should it be available ?
3) Is there a website where I (the customer) can track the car's progress ?
4) Does it also include at what point in the shipping it's at ? I'm in Canada.
Any info would be appreciated.

Hope this helps you put though I know of this for the USA only so I don't know if canada works the same way.
1) I assume the dealer provides this ? Yes, the salesman should give it to you
2) How long from order should it be available ? I got mine a few hours after I ordered
3) Is there a website where I (the customer) can track the car's progress ? Not sure for Canada but for USA it is the BMWUSA website and you go to the owners circle
4) Does it also include at what point in the shipping it's at ? I'm in Canada. I know for the USA it tells you each detail of the actual production cycle. When you sign up on the owners circle website it gives you a quick little animated movie on it showing how it works

One thing about the "Owner's Circle" tracking, it is delayed by several days apparently. Calling the dealer is your best bet to get real time tracking info.

What's the usual time line for building the car?
How long does Scheduled for Production take?
How long does Awaiting Transport take?
How long does En Route take?
How long does At Prep Center take?
