HI all. This is my first post here.
Im getting ready to buy a car soon, and I was wondering if you guys could help me out. IM looking to spend about 20 grand on a car. I have looked at a couple of used 328i's and found a few I liked, but for every bimmer I find, there is always a more powerful alternative available for the same price. Never driven a bimmer before, but by simply looking at specs, I really find it very hard to justify why I would spend that kind of money for a car with less power than, for example, a 350z.
I was hoping if you guys could educate me a little and tell me why you guys picked a bimmer over other cars. Basically, I want to know what makes bimmer's so special? Is it even realistic to find a good bimmer for bout 20 grand?
All replies are appreciated.

I think after you drive a Bimmer you may get a better perspective on why it is such a popular choice...even if the price seems a little high compared to other vehicles.
Do a test drive, and then decide.

Dont let the power stats fool ya,it's the torque (ft;lbf) that what counts, most bimmer are not lacking in this.
Why buy a bimmer?
Hmm let me see, better build quality, better handling, status of owing such car(if ya in to that),much much more refined than say a ford or GM based platform, with a little TLC your bmw should look after you very well. And I might add this the first car i've owned that i invent resons to the wife why to go and drive it ,lol!

hmm you guys make a good point. izzy, you say you used to own a 350z. I was wondering why you gave it up?
all the bimmers in my price range are either quite old or have a lot of mileage (60k+). how is their reliability and maintenance? anything in particular I should avoid when looking for a car? im kinda overwhelmed with all the different models.

see, maintenance and reliability GO HAND IN HAND with bmw's,see a poorly maintained bmw's will be a VERY painful experience,so what you are looking for is very goodmaintenance" records by past owners, things like for example my e39 a records show the cat has been replaced the power windows acutatros have been replaced, micron filters done regularly, all stuff that needs to be done. In a nut shell cars with no maintenance record AVOID like the plague!
