 Questions on 1975 BMW 2002

Just thought that I would share with everyone
here that today while on our way to the racetrack
we found an old 2002. Its a 1975 2002 with 45,000
original miles, yes original miles. It was owned by an
attorney in N. Carolina and then sold to an attorney
here and sat in a garage for 15 years
So the guy who owns it now, needs to sell it for
financial reasons. He is asking $3,500 USD for it.
The only thing that doesn't work is the AC. He repainted
it and there are small bubbles on the drivers side front
fender, near the door. The interior is decent it looks
like it may have been damp since the shifter and
parking brake are somewhat rusted. If anyone
knows of the cost to have a new headliner and interior
put in? What should I look out for mechanically? Any
comments suggestions?
Thanks

45K??

That thing needs to be driven.

There are a lot of issues with a car that's been sitting that long. The rubber parts - hoses, gaskets - will probably be rotted. Water in the gas and the oil. The 2002s are prone to rust and to rot in the undercarriage. Have someone who knows 2002s give it a good looksee... but one that unused is likely going to need some work.

We checked for rust, in the wheel wells and other obvious place.
We'll give it a more thorough inspection tommorow.
Yeah, it does need to be driven, by me and my dad hehe.
I think I can get someone to check it out. Do you
think that it will be that rusted even though it sat in
a garage. The amn who bought it off the attorney said it runs
perfectly. My dad had oneso he knows a thing or two about
them, we just wanted to getsome good advice from you guys here.
More info welcome

EDIT: We think that we can get less than $3,500
Maybe around $,3000.

If it has no rust, then it's a good one. I would ask him about the smog situation as you do not want to be stuck with a 30 year old car that has problems passing smog. Otherwise, they're fun to zip around town in. -I would prefer a 5spd for hwy driving though. I drove down to Irvine this past weekend from SB and the whole way down my car was like a buzz saw.... screaming at 5k (when redline's only 6 something) and to be honest, it was brutal to sit through LA traffic near the 405/101 interchange (sepulveda pass area) without A/C.

It really all depends.
Sitting for 15 years can take its toll on many aspects of the car.
Like Carrie said, all the rubber parts (from the door seals to the brake components) may not have survived well.
But... Most of the bit are very available and easy to work on when you would get to that point...
I've had my 2002 for upwards of 20 years now and love every minute driving it (and I even like working on it as well...)
Your best bet for on-line 'stuff' is.....2002 FAQ and their message board. They have the mother of all links pages that has just about any and every web site for the 02.

Good luck
(drop me a line if you'd like to....)
