Aside from reviewing the carfax, run your fingers along the edges of the body panels. If perfectly smooth, then that panel has not been repainted.

If bumps on the edge, then that panel was repainted.

Many other ways to identify repainting too. (overspray on chrome, rubber seals, bolts, screws, etc.)

Lastly, you can buy a gauge to test the thickness of the paint, but it likely costs about $400+.

Good luck.

Thanks definatly aside from the motor running good I ewant a real straight body and decent paint. The one issue I will have is that Alpine white on BMWs seems to turn chalky after years of sun exposure if you know what i mean?

People wont run you a carfax because they will have there accounts cancelled if caught. However, carfax is junk. There are many cars that have been in serious accidents, and nothing ever shows up on a carfax report. If I were you, the best thing to do is take it to someone to inspect for damage. If you have a Carmax in your area, they are great for this. They refuse to use carfax too. But they do an incredible job detecting previous damage, etc.

I written more about carfax in some of my other posts. You can search those if you want.
