Unlike a recent class-less so-called post about Evosport, I write this post focusing on just a few of the positives of Evosport. Should I demand this post get read in its entirety as well? I guess I should, because people generally don't read the "feel-good" posts as well as the "dirt-dragging" posts - even if the "attempted-bash" posts are full of inaccuracies and written by someone who probably needs a driving lesson and is afraid to do a school in his diaper-wiped garage-laden show queen.
After a very full year of driving schools and BMW CCA Club races, dozens and dozens - if not hundreds of happy BMW enthusiasts enjoyed their car more due to the efforts of Evosport.
Evosport tirelessly supports BMW enthusiasts by offering services at driving schools, races, etc. They don't make every event, but a couple years ago, at a BMW CCA Driving School at Buttonwillow, Evosport sent a tech and a truck of parts to offer free technical service to the event. Knowing it was going to be 100 degrees that weekend and the fact that Buttonwillow is one of the hardest tracks on brakes, they knew there would be issues with students cars. Sure enough, 18 cars went in and out of the Evosport tech garage and other than a deep discounts on mostly E46 brake pads and two (yes two!) E36 radiators that were desperately needed by numerous students and instructors, not a single penny was charged for the expert service. I even saw them McGuiver-hang an exhaust on a 70s Z so well the club let it back out even after dragging the thing around the track just a couple hours prior.
At BMW CCA Club Races, they have a strict open door policy for anyone and everyone to come by for parts, repair, technical expertise, fluids, tools, etc. If you get too close to their camp at lunch time they will drag you in and make you eat their lunch too. They host the drivers meetings and they are the place to hang when the track goes red for the day in part because they have the most beer and chairs set up for everyone.
During a technical inspection prior to a driving event at Cal Speedway, they noticed a small crack near one of the rear trailing arm brackets. After further inspection, they were both pulling out of my race car. It was bad. They kept the shop opened, stayed late, made the repair pieces right on spot, welded them in, and gave the car an alignment all that night so I could make the event. I don't even want to know what would have happened if I threw the car into the oval a 140 if they didn't catch and repair the damage.
Am I boring you yet? I probably am because this is some of the good stuff Evosport does for the BMW community. Maybe it's time for the forums to be flooded with good Evosport posts? People just don't do that sort of thing. When was the last time you picked up the phone and thanked your bank, payroll lady, insurance company, DirecTV and cel phone provider for a perfect year of accounting? Never. But I bet it takes you only 5 seconds to pick up the phone and bitch if they screw something up.
In closing, here are some things to think about... Surface rust and rust are VERY different. The appearance of rust can come from many places - even in stainless steel headers. I use Evosport headers in my own race car and just won 17 races in a row. Don't sell something as "perfect" if you recently posted to the world that it has rust on it. You do not replace the header studs when you replace a head. Wheels might not rub with an empty trunk on surface streets but might rub on the highway at 80 with bags in the trunk and a full tank of gas. Aftermarket stuff sometimes doesn't fit right and honest mistakes can be made. Sunroofs are very tricky to get right the firs time and settle - especially aftermarket ones. Some people are quick to bash the fit of aftermarket parts but notice how Evosport has shifted no blame towards the aftermarket supplier - that's class. AFE intakes are made of aluminum, not steel and anything can become heat soaked. AFE intakes are used with great success in top BMW race cars. Some people wouldn't know an apex if it bit them on their carbon fiber butt. There is nothing worse than a show car with no trophies.
Why don't we get on with loving our wonderful cars and leave negativity and Porsches in our rear view mirrors where they belong.
