4 days old bimmer got hit-small paint chip

I got a small paint chip on the back bumper- hit by another car tonight in a parking lot.
It's about 1/8 inch.
car is 4 days old(in US). 335i coupe/3 year lease/1st time BMW owner

The guy was an abusive psycho & I wanted to get out of there. Maybe I should've called the cops. He pulled the whole BMW hating a-hole hatred talk on me..."there is no damage..I'm a rich BMW owner...he is a poor American."

I finally got his insurance/plate & got out without getting in to any physical fights. He had a POS car with lots of paint chips.

I'm planning to call my insurance company(AAA) & file a claim. But I don't know if they'll pay since there is no police report & if my rates would go up or they'll tell me to collect from his insurance company. I have full coverage/whatever BMWFS requires for leases. From reading the messages on bimmerfest, it's best I repair this now before it gets worse.

weird. we did ED for this car, drove it for 2000 miles all over Europe & got it 4 days ago. No accidents or damages in Europe or in shipment.

Your insurance company will probably treat this as a collision. What's your deductible? In otherwords if you have a 500, 1000 dollar deductible you'll probably pay anyway. I'm sure you can give the tag number to the insurance company and they will make a phone call or two and try and collect. But for the small dollar amount it really is not worth tieing down the system over.

At least you got the satisfaction of seeing the jerk that did, I always wondered what those phantom door dinging idiots look like.

I bet your local BMW dealer has a paint guy ( like paint wizards) that touches up new cars that do get a little scratch on them. Sounds like you bought a package deal with the ED, I bet your dealer would work with you just as a good faith gesture as a new customer.

If my eyes are operating correctly, your paint looks like silver grey metallic. I just purchased a touch up kit from Dr. Colorchip for a ding in my hood (2 month old car). You cannot see the repair and I recommend you try to touch it up rather than letting the hounds out of the shed by notifying your insurance company and then theirs, seeking to file a claim.

Welcome to the world of a new car. I swear to gawd that it takes like the first week to get the first ding and after that you'll never get another. At least that's the way it happens to me. Good luck. At least you got it out of the way. Now nothing will happen to the car ever again!

Do yourself a favor and take Kevin`s advice.... the first chip/ding/scratch is *always* painful, but inevitable unless you want to shrink-wrap the car in plastic and leave it in the garage `til the lease expires.... Happy motoring !

Regards,
Bob

looks like normal wear and tear to me, get some touchup paint and move on with life. Go to the toystore and find a facsimilie of the jerk's car that hit you, touch the scratch on your car with it to get some microscopic residue from his car onto the now "voodoo car" and set it on fire in your driveway with lighter fluid.
