Being I grew up in a family business, I am more patient than most when it comes to understanding mistakes. Today though really got me. Forget the details but here's the jest of it. I've had 3 Bimmers and thought I would be smart.
Three weeks ago, I took my car in to have them check this intermittant sound coming from the AC. It was late in the day, but the first time it was happening whereas someone (dealer) could hear it. They got a mechanic (real good guy) to come out and listen, and he confirmed immediately what it was.
So I scheduled an appointment which fell on today. At the same time, I asked them if they had this part in stock. In the past, I've been without a car overnight waiting on the part to come in, or had to bring it back. I didn't want to go through that again so they told me to call the first of the following week to confirm. I then think I could just plan to spend the day checking out other cars there (wife wants one too) and then go over to this shopping plaza across the street and get stuff done there.
I called the following Monday(last week), but the regular person who told me to call back was on vacation (?), instead I talked to some service manager guy who was filling in and explained about the part. He started to give me this thing about they don't order parts without payment, but I explained again what happened the prior week and even the mechanic to talk to. (This is a CPO covered item). He said he would look into it. I called back again last week and couldn't get a person to talk to but left a detailed message.
Called earlier this week to confirm they had the part - left name, number, and a message again.
Get there this morning and ask if they have the part. The regular guy is back from vacation and said yes. They ask me if I need a ride somewhere. I just tell them I'd wait. So I hit the showroom and looked over all the used cars and made a list of what I would test drive that afternoon. Had a crisis call from the office I had to handle over the phone, then called the wife and made arrangements to get the kids from school, etc.
Walked over to a shpping plaza across the street to get lunch and last minute gifts around noon, and get a call on my cell phone - they don't have the part after all, or something about they didn't have the right part. Now I have to take it back in next week to get the part replaced. I was so pissed I just go the car and left. I don't even want to think about buying a car from them which sux because there are some nice people in the sales department.
I don't believe they checked to see if they actually had the part or, somehow refuse to order parts without some type of confirmation and just don't tell anyone they do that (based on what the manager guy started to tell me)
Why would it take 3 hours 45 minutes to learn they didn't have the part if my car was scheduled for an appointment first thing in the morning? I wonder if the appointment is even worth anything.
I burned a day, a day I could have spent playing golf or even going into work (which I turned everyone's schedule sideways to get today off). I could go look at cars on Saturday or something.
Next week I will be without a car for a day, have to drive all the way out to Timbuktu to drop it off, not get into the office until way after 9.
This just doesn't seem right. What can one do?
