 Replica Wheel Weight Question

I've had the Factory Reproductions 18" E39 M5 wheels installed recently and I'm not sure if it's just my imagination, but the car feels just a bit slower when accelerating and cornering from my stock 17" 528 wheels w/ sport package. I know the FR ones are 27.5lbs which is pretty heavy, but I'm not sure how much my old wheels weigh and/or how heavy the oem m5 wheel weighs. Does anyone have information on these issues?

Could the slowdown just be psychological? If not, how much slower do you think it could be? Maybe a whole second on 0-60?

Thanks!

No, you`re not imagining things.... since the weight (rotating mass) is farther out from the center of the circle, there`s more resistance upon acceleration, and, once rolling, the added gyroscopic effect also means more resistance to turning and braking....one of the downfalls of going to larger wheels.

Regards,
Bob

Exactly Correct! Could not have said it better myself, and I deal with this for a living.

Is it just the downfall of larger wheels or of replica and larger wheels? If the weight of typical 18" rims are around 27lbs I wouldn't feel as bad. =(

IIRC, C5 Z06 rear wheels are right around 20 lbs and known to be a very light street wheel for its size. There are lighter wheels but not if durability is an issue. I have a friend who has spun-aluminum racing wheels (around 12 lbs in 18x10's) but he can't get a tire changed without wheel damage.

You got bit for both larger diameter (more mass at higher radius) and heavy construction.
Don't forget your tire weight. There is some variation by tire model at a given size.

Thanks guys.

Anyone know where I can find info on the oem M5 wheel weight?
