 How to sell my car

Hey everybody,

I hope this is the best place to ask this question.

I'm doing Euro Delivery on 7/2 and am trying to sell my 05 325i. It's been on Autotrader for three weeks and I've only gotten one call. It seems like anyone looking for a car is sifting through hundreds of ads by dealers before they come to mine.

For those of you who have done this recently do you have any better ideas. I don't think I'm asking a crazy price or anything.

I'm NOT trying to sell the car here, I'm just looking for ideas that have woked well for you.

Thanks,

Andre

Three possibilities Herr FO

1.) Adverts in the Roundel and www.bmwcca.org (are you a member? if not, you should join - and feel free to list me as referrer, membership number 36024).

2.) Online adverts here and on Roadfly

3.) eBay

Why not? I have sold three BMWs to private buyers and have advertised on all of the BMW specific forums, this one included. This is the best way to get exposure, I think.

That said, the people who have purchased my cars all came to me from Yahoo classifieds, which I think now is in bed with auto trader.

People looking for a private party sale can search for those and not have to go through all the dealer ads. Do you have a pay ad? Lots of pictures, lots of information?

What color is the car? Is it red? Very difficult to sell a red car. Is it a stick or auto? A stick will probably get more notice on enthusiast websites like this one. What is the asking price, how many miles, are these in line with what the other offerings are? Is the market flooded? When I sold my 1996 328is there were like nine or 10 other offerings that were very similar in my general area, so I had to be aggressive with my pricing to get the sale.

Post your ad to the classified section and I'm sure the fine people here will give you some advice or at least colorful commentary on your offering to the used car market.

Very good advice. I have sold 2 non-bimmers on EBAY and got a decent price relatively quickly. If you find someone one these sites that is looking for what you are selling, that will help you maximize your price. Also try Bimmerforums.

I sold my 1997 Mercedes E420 (now driving a 2007 550i) on Craigslist here in Houston.

I sold it in three hours.

It's free, so what the heck? Might as well list it.

Dan
