 Will BMW ever have an ///M version for the X series'?

I was thinking about this last night while on a walk. I was daydreaming about my dream stable of cars and started to wonder about this because I would have an SUV of some sort for moving stuff/people hauling but I don't like what any of the SUV's on the market except for the AMG G-wagen. I love the X5 but think it would rock to have something that coud outrun most cars on the road.

They did the 3,5, and 6 series but what about for the X3 or X5 to compete w/ the Range Rover Sport and the Cayanne S and the Mercedes AMG G-wagen or Escelade(sp)? As much as I find a sport version of a SUV to be absurd, it might be interesting to see what the peope over at the ///M factory could but together. I know that opinion contradicts with me wanting an SUV around but like I said, I was just dreaming. I would never drive one as a daily driver but to have around for trips to Home Depot or taking the dogs to the ocean but also being able to take friends to a classy place to eat or the opera would be nice. Plus I'm not a fan of trucks.

I'm sure this question has been asked before however I wasn't having any luck using the search engine so I apologize if this is a repost.

Although not directly mentioned or individualized as a M/// car, the X5 4.8is is really the closest thing to and M/// version of the X5.

When the 4.8is was released it was one of the fastest SUV's in the market. It does 0-60 in 5.9 seconds (BMW website). It still even handles better than the Range Rover Sports out there.

With the new X5 already out, and the 3.0 and 4.4 being replaced with 3.0si and 4.8i, one can only imagine what the replacement for the 4.8is will be.

Rumor over at X5world.com has it that the replacement will be a 4.4 liter bi-turbo V8...

Just wait and see...

when the x5 came out bmw stated there would never be a M x5 b/c M cars are rwd only and have manual transmissions *this statement was made before the e60 M5/M6 came out* ... the closest to M x5 would have been the 4.6/4.8is... but now the next v8 in the x5 makes 355hp so it'd be interesting to see what they come up with next

From a marketing standpoint, they should. You have ML class Mercs, Turbo Cayennes, SRT8 Jeeps, etc so why not an M X series Bimmer. From a more philosophical outlook, what's the point? So a fundamentally non-sporty vehicle can make its owner more likely to roll it by pushing it too hard. I shudder to see the day, but wouldn't doubt it happening in the future.

You can never say never but ///M strategy does not include the SAV. The previous post does have some validity to it though... BMW Increased the engine litre size (4.4 to a 4.8) but their are no ///M components; so is it close to a ///M, the answer is no. --Yes there are stiffer components (Check the part numbers and you will find them distinct to that line).

The ///M is defined by several factors: a larger engine, lighter body parts,, race performance components, etc... ///M is Aesthetics, Agility, Power, High Technology, Innovation, and High Performance... I do not believe BMW will follow Audis and Mercedes strategy of over saturating all their lines with a S(Audi), R(Audi), and AMG(Mercedes) model. BMW will limit its ///M model.

Thank you BMW!

You can be sure to have the new X5 4.8 (350HP) to be complimented with a sportier version with similar performance number of the 550i, 650i, and the 750i (4.8 litres rounded to 5.0 litres) but it won't be an
///M, it will be a X5si (S=Sport).

Good thought though...

The New X5 produces 350HP from it 4.8 powerplant; it has been detuned.
