I know that I shouldn't ask this here but I just spend 45min in e90 forum and couldn't get a clear answer. Can someone tell me what e90/e91/e92/e93 means please? I only know that e90 is new 3 series sedan and no cluse what other are. I am guessing that one is station wagon and one is for coupe but not sure. Help please!!! P.S. One other thing I didn't understand. Why do people say 335i coupe instead of saying 335ci? This annoyes me...

The reason they say 335i Coupe is because 335ci doesn't exist - BMW dropped the 'c' for coupes in the model designation for the E9x. There is just a 335i sedan and a 335i coupe.
(moving this thread go General BMW)

First they used different EXX code for each body style. (Used to be same for all body styles of same series). Then they made engine displacement different than the model number. (I believe all E9Xs have 3.0 liter engine regardless what they are called) And Now the "c" is gone!. What is the use of all this other than confusing the hell out of people? I don't think I will ever get that...

There were a lot of cars in which the model# didn't match the displacement... E46 323i, E39 540i, etc...
They ADDED the 'c' for the E46 - the E30 and E36 didn't use 'c'....

>>What is the use of all this other than confusing the hell out of people? Much less typing online + no need to remember which year is which model; e.g. IIRC the 325 was made as a E30, E36 , E46 and E90!!
All bmw model codes are most wikipedia BMW pages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_F10
FYI: The internal code FXX is being used for new models. All manufacturers have similar internal model numbers which are often used by enthusiasts when chatting together (esp online); e.g. I smoked an AMG R230 and stock 997 Carerra 2 last week in my TT E92.

Thanks for the clarification. Looks like I will have to get used to this new naming system.
