Anyone have passenger mirror tilt problem?

Has anyone had this problem before?
On my 04 X5, the passenger mirror will sometimes only tilt back up halfway when placed back into Drive after Reverse. It doesnt happen very often, but it does happen, about 1 out of 8 times.

Better description: I put the Tranny shifter to Reverse to backup the car and then back to Drive to driveoff, I look at my mirror and it has only tilted halfway back to its original position.

Yes, the switch is put into the correct position (left). It is not a matter of it not tilting or tilting. The problem is, once in awhile, it only when placed back to Drive position from Reverse position, the mirror only tilts back halfway.

I heard from a couple people on the forum that they got this fixed but they didnt have details.
I need the details of the fix such as what the dealer had replaced or what work was down or if there is a bulletin that shows this is a common problem otherwise the said they can not fix if they can reproduce the problem and I am afraid when I bring in my car, it doesnt happen.

I had that problem, but it was permanently tilted down, after put in drive, then when put in reverse again, it would tilt down even more, so the dealer was able to reproduce it, sorry about your situation. They had to replace the entire mirror mechanism. My car is the same year as yours, it is interesting to see that you have a similar problem albeit a different model. Best of luck to you.

Try moving it around by hand, then set up the mirror, move the switch to the drivers side and leave it there, should work, it did for me. Good luck
cheers

I had the passenger mirror on my 2003 X5 replaced twice, the driver's side once. Two of the repairs were for the mirror not folding in correctly (I'd hit the power in button and mirror would fold in and then bounce back out, or it would work but the mirror would pop loudly when it got into place, or worst of all, it would do both of the above AND jiggle as I drove). Once I had it replaced for exactly what you are describing.

The fix involved leaving the X5 for the day so they could completely replace the mirror and the mechanism.

As I said, I went through three mirrors total before the problem went completely away.

I could always replicate the problem at the dealer, but when I called the first time the service advisor wasn't very resistant at all - he said they replace the mirrors all the time and even ordered the part before I showed up.

You must have a good Service Advisor at your Dealer. Mine says he cant do anything if they cant reproduce it on the spot or if there is no bulletin mentioning that it is a common problem. This is why I need details so I can give it to my Service Advisor.

I had mirrors replaced on both sides for the waving thing, They would seem to not work in cold weather, etc. Finally, after several switch outs, they got them to work.. Unfortunately, the service advisers at my dealership waited to order after... so it took several trips.
