 MB model designation

K I have always hoped I would never have to want to understand MB model designations. A friend is going to lease a MB and I have to get up to speed. I have tried for the last 15 minutes and the only sense I can make of it is that anythign with an L in it has only 2 doors.

So can someone please break down the model designations and explain how it all fits together with some sort of reason. Love ya don't tell ya enough.

Well...

CLS/CLK/CL - Coupes
CLS - 4 Dour Coupe
CL - Performance Model Coupe
CLK - Base Model Coupe
CLK Convertable - Base Model Coupe Convertable

SL/SLK - Roadsters
SLK - Base Model Roadster
SL - Performance Model Roadster

I think? At least thats for current generation mercedes.

Nope... anything with an L in it is little, i.e., ML500 is the "little" SUV...

and doesn't this belong in "other automotive"

4 door coupe? That makes my brain hurt. Yeah, I know their CLS intention is a "coupe look" but 4 doors makes it a sedan!
