Durability of Black Saphhire vs. Jet Black?

I know that the jet black finish can easily show small scratches and swirl marks without trying very hard. I also know there are ways to minimize this; however, while a shiny black looks georgous on a BMW, we all know it's a high maintenance color.

Is the black sapphire paint finish more forgiving when it comes to showing swirl marks, etc.? I would think the metalic finish might help disguise some of this... but am interested in your experiences.

(and I'm not referring to keeping it looking clean - just the swirl/scratch appearance). Thanks!

I've got both - my Z4 is Black Sapphire, my 325i is Jet Black. The Z4 is more forgiving about swirls and dirt (in part because it always looks a bit dusty in dim light), but it lacks the depth and clarity of the Jet Black on the 325i. Doing it over again, both cars would be Jet Black if I had the choice.

Oddly enough, I don't have that choice. I plan to get an E46 M3 coupe and Z4 M Roadster down the line - the Z4M doesn't come in Jet Black, so I'll either have to get an E46 M3 in Black Sapphire so they match, or live with the same combination again!

I've heard the jet black on the new 328 & 335 is very soft and prone to easily scratch. Maybe Picus would like to chime in here, he's had lots of hands on experience with this color.
