 CPO BMW requirements?

Hello all!

I am in the process of purchasing a CPO BMW car and I would like to hear from those out there with regard to requirements of a CPO car. I have a copy of the CPO vehicle inspection list and everything looks good except for 2 things.

1) There is a statement stating that the tires are at or below spec (I assume based on the tire tread depths that were measured). Is the dealer required to replace these before selling the car as CPO? And if so, do they usually replace it with new?

3) The checklist is shown with only 1 master key. Is it required to have the standard set (2 masters, 1 valet and 1 plastic spare) when the vehicle is sold as CPO? If it's not required, do you think it is difficult to request a complete set? If I am not able to get a complete set, how do one go about getting extra keys? Having just one key for a BMW seems entirely unreasonable (and what if I lose it) or if my wife needs to drive it one day?

Thanks all!

Bump! Anybody out there know anything about tread depth and requirements with regard to CPO car? I see the following on some tires... inside (3 mm), center (1mm), outside (3 mm). Is that sufficient or does this tire need to be changed shortly...

I just bought a CPO 2004 530i. The car was returned from lease with aftermarket rims and tires. The dealer told me they that in order to certify the car for the CPO program that the tires and rims must meet original equipment specs, so I got new rims and new tires. I can't speak to what specs would be required if the tires are original equipment and just worn to a certain level.

The issue with the keys came up with my purchase also. They only gave me one key at delivery. I insisted that a full set of keys be provided and the dealer has promised me that I will receive the missing keys. They had to order new keys and are mailing them this week (three weeks after delivery).

I'd like to see your CPO checklist if you could post a copy. The salesman told me that before delivery the car would be made current with regard to software, open campaign items, inspections, etc.. He also said new filters (except the micros), belts and hoses would be installed. After visual inspection it appears all of that happened, I'd just like to see the checklist out of curiosity.

The car needs to have 4 (or 5, if a full size spare is in the car) BMW approved, matching tires with at least 3mm of tread depth all across.

The car needs at lease 5mm of material on the brake pads, and rotors must be in spec

All required maintenance must be complete, cars with incomplete service history might not be eligible. Dealer is not required to do any maintenance that is not yet called for.

Car must be delivered with 2 remote master keys. Wallet key and valet key are not required if the car doesn't have them. Car must also have an owner's manual and service and warranty book.

This is the checklist used by BMW and MINI for their CPO programs:

Sarafil,

Thanks for posting the checklist. Good information.

The checklist you saw is a snapshot of the vehicle's condition when it was first enrolled in the CPO program. The tires have probably already been replaced, but look to be sure.
