I have a 2007 x3 with navigation system. When looking on the map I will see a circle with a dot in the middle. Not all the time once ever so often. Most of the time it is on the road that i am traveling on. When I travel past or threw the circle with dot there is nothing in that area or any type of markings. I asked the salesman and he did not know. Nothing in owners manual. Any idea what this my be on the map ?

It's the 'city center' icon that you're seeing - the geographical center.
If it's the same as the MKIV nav in the E46, then it will show the icons for whatever point of interest category you last selected. You also have the option to hide all icons in the 'Information' NAV menu (once again, this may not apply to your newer vehicle).

I already asked the same question and your answer about the geographical center is correct. In many cases it is of no value. I have the MKIV system with OS v28 and mapset 2007-1 and the "hide Icons" hides all but this one!

It's not too hard to remove that icon by editing it out on the dvd  .
