bmw hybrids?
what if anything is bmw planning on doing to deal with the fule economy issue? yes, and the hydrogen car is not the answer sorry folks. and frankly, i do not think diesels are really it either. too noisy and too much turbo lag. i would think bmw would have to come up with some type of hybrid engine here at some stage. anyone have any thoughts or knowledge about this? | | Reply » bmw hybrids? | I don't care what they come up with as long as it has a sports package
Btw they're pushing for hydrogen
| | Reply » bmw hybrids? | is this a joke? how will people fill up? how practical does bmw think that this really is? other makes have alternatives ie hybrids out now- not ten years from now. bmw needs to come up with something...
| | Reply » bmw hybrids? | Interesting how this same thread has come up twice today. My thoughts here
Before you throw out diesels as the answer, I suggest you test drive one. Unfortunately it will be awhile unless you take a trip abroad. I had the chance to drive an X5 3.0d while in the Philippines 2 years ago, and I can tell that I was sold on the technology within 5 minutes. It didn't sound like a diesel, it didn't smell like a diesel, and it certainly didn't perform like a diesel.
Actually, I take that back: it did perform like a diesel. As in GOBS and GOBS of torque at very low, and very usable rpms.
My next car will likely be a 135i, but if they brought over the 130d, it would be a very, very hard choice. I may have to get both
| | Reply » bmw hybrids? | I have read that when BMW was delveloping the hydrogen car they were also installing hydrogen fuel station throughout Germany. Now that they did the first stage they are able to build the hydrogen vehical. It seems the Germans are ahead of the issue and some day will no longer have the need for oil from other countries.Mybe the U.S.A could follow but the auto market is controlled by the oil tycoons. An there fore we still buy gas cars.

Look up GM Two Mode Hybrid for info (GM has released more info than anyone else so far).
