Whats up all? Sorry if this has been discussed before, I searched and couldn't find anything dealing with it. Tons of info on enabling a non operational clown nose, but I just want to get rid of mine...
I was under the (mistaken?) belief that the stupid red dome was only on the RVM if you ordered certain options- thats one reason I didn't go for the auto dim w/ compass, even tho I can't find my way out of a brown paper bag. Is it in all the E90's?
Anyway, if you dont have the alarm system, is there a need for the dome and bulb there? can it be removed w/out damaging the RMV electronics? if not, has anyone replaced the red dome with a clear one?
I know it seems nit picky, but I Looove the interior of the car, but that damn little red dome sticks out like a sore thumb and just doesnt seem to belong....makes it look cheaper IMO...
Anyway, I love this forum, I've been reading all the posts for the last 3 months while I researched the car, while shopping for it, and now while (im)patiently waiting for it to be mine. Thanks for all the info and for making the whole process that much better!!!

As far as I know, it cannot be removed. It contains the sensor for the keyless remote. After several years of listening to all my passengers bitch about it, I hardly notice it. Grab a straw, and suck it up... it's really no biggy

Savor the clown nose.
It's one of the few classic BMW traits that Bangle hasn't ruined.

I didn't think to ask about a car alarm, having one standard in many previous (non-BMW) vehicles. I don't like the fact that not only do I not have an alarm, I have a big, red advertisement of that fact on my mirror.
Otherwise, the aesthetics (or lack thereof) don't really bother me. It's goofy, but it's a part of the sub-culture.

Why not paint it matte black - or you could get some touchup paint and match your exterior color.

You could order a mirror without the clown nose from Europe since not all European E90 are equipped with it. Only the US cars come prewired for alarm retrofit and hence the clown nose. Euro spec only comes with the nose if you ordered the alarm.
Or just break it off...
