Bluetooth Working With Sprint PCS LG PM-325

I had to get a new mobile phone this past weekend, so I decided to try the only "regular" phone from Sprint PCS that has bluetooth - the LG PM-325. I got a $150 discount on the phone for signing a 2 year contract and my old phone was eligible for a $50 buy-back, so I'm only paying $19 for this phone.

BMW does not list the PM-325 as being compatible and Sprint PCS doesn't have BMW on its list of cars that the phone is compatible with. I had also read elsewhere that the bluetooth features of this phone have been crippled by Sprint. So... I was very skeptical.

Much to my surprise, I was able to get the phone paired up and was making and receiving calls in no time!

The good:

1. Sound quality is much better than I expected.
2. I am able to transfer calls from the handset to the car and vice versa.
3. I am also able to use the voice command "Dial Number" to dial.

The somewhat disappointing:

1. My contacts list does not transfer to the car.
2. The 330i owner's manual has instructions for adding names with phone numbers into the car's memory, but so far I can't get that to work.

Bottom line - it's always nice when something works that you weren't expecting to.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience. I'm in almost an identicle situation. I have a new 750li on order (should be here in about a month) and Sprint is my carrier. I didn't want the Treo and Sprint has extremely limited bluetooth options.

I was looking at the LG phone but was disappointed it wasn't on BMW's list. How often does BMW review and certify new cell phones?

I think that any phone with bluetooth and the Headset profile will "work". I was told by Brecht BMW in San Diego that BMW only certifies phones that will transfer the phonebook to car.

That particular detail was not told to me even by the person at Customer Relations at the 800 number. Apparently BT as a standard isn't so standard. Anyone know if there are any tweaks that can be made to get this phone to transfer contact info?
