Possible to convert 325 engine mph/torque to the 330 specs?
I'm asking because a friend (actually more of somone I know, who is a pain in the ass) of mine said that it could be done, after saying he would of gotten a 325 and converted it aftermarket. I don't know much about the technical aspects of engines period. I didn't know enough to believe or disagree with him. I remember reading and tried to search unsuccessfully for an explanation that it is software and something about intake? If possible can someone break it down in layman's terms if it is possible or not after market. thanks This will allow some of you true die hard engine guru's to strut your stuff! | | Reply » Possible to convert 325 engine mph/torque to the 330 specs? | Quote: I'm asking because a friend (actually more of somone I know, who is a pain in the ass) of mine said that it could be done, after saying he would of gotten a 325 and converted it aftermarket. This will allow some of you true die hard engine guru's to strut your stuff! | I will make this short and sweet.... it can be done, it will be done by someone who does not give a crap about warranty, or Dinan will just make it a kit. The ONLY difference in the motors are the multistage intake, the motor to operate it and the wiring harness for it. The ECU is programmed differently and has the functions for the intake, so you would need the intake system (all components) and the 330 computer. Dinan I am sure will have a kit to bolt up and do this, the engine just needs to breather better and have the software. Basically they put the 325 in a strangle hold not allowing it to breathe so it is weaker!!

Thanks for the infomation. I'm a complete lightweight when it comes to engine knowledge.

I also believe the programming for the adjustable valvetrain is different for the 325.
But yes, what Mapezzul said is what I have been told also

But yes, what Mapezzul said is what I have been told also | No part numbers are exactly the same for all engine components... this was a rumor someone started saying there was no way they were the same, they are. The only part numbers/parts that are different are the ones I discussed earlier. An ECU reflash would work, but unlike VAG cars it is not easy/quick, would be easier just to swap out the computers.

Nikki you are mistaken, Audi does not reflash the ECU the motors only have one software program and are not used in defferent models with different outputs. Currently The 2.0t is used in the base cars, the 3.2(non turbo 6) is used in higher model A4, A3, TT. The only car that had used the same engine and had a higer output was the TT with 225HP 1.8t and that was due to a different turbo and software. VW cars also vary, but many did have a higher output due to turbo differences. There are many after market manufacturers and tuners that reprogram the ECU on VAG cars, having done this for most of my life it is a cheap HP boost for $3-500 depending on the tuner and upwards of 50 Hp! A new VAG ecu is about $1k so maybe that is what they were talking about. http://www.neuspeed.com/products/product_details.asp?app=90|A3&type=11<ype=ns_euro&p_id=1891 They are able to get nearly 300ft/lbs 260 HP out of the new 2.0t 4 cylinder. VW/Audi are more of a tuners car, than a BMW since it is naturally aspirated. Best of luck!
