Hi all. First time BMW owner. What can I say, other than I never knew what I have been missing.....
Anyway, has anyone else had dripping sticky stuff from the trunk lid run down on the rear bumper? I noticed it the other day, and thought it was water drips, until I tried to get it off.
Thinking I may have the dealer give it a shot.

I came back from 2 weeks being away and found the gunk at the lip of the trunk oozing down the center of the bumper. Worse thing is its already hardened. Tried to wash it out with soap and water but to no avail. Then I tried a product called "goof off" (You can get them at home depot) and managed to get the damn thing off.
At first I thought my buddy who was taking care of my car while I was away parked under a tree and that it was tree sap on my car. But when I found the same gunk again couple of days later, I checked my trunk thoroughly and found a little hole right above the trunk latch that seems to be the culprit. I have taken a picture of it. Right now, my temporary measure is to stick a wad of tissue to stop the goo from coming out anymore. But I am wondering if I am missing a cap / plug or something that would cover up the hole. So bimmerfesters with E90s, pls check and see if you have it. If so, I should make a trip down to the dealership to get that fixed.
Thanks!

The gunk is rustproofing wax that drips out when the car is new and has been standing in the heat for a while.
It is actually a GOOD thing because it means that there is rather too much wax for rustproofing your car but certainly not too little. I guess with the first model year BMW has not jet figured quite the right amount of wax to put in there.
NEVER ever close those holes that the stuff drips out of with anything though. Those holes are neccessary for water that found its way into that space to drip out / evaporate. On the contrary, if you find one of those hole closed by gunk or anything else than a factory cap, clean it and make sure it´s open. Otherwise you´ll have a mosture buildup in there and the steel will start rusting from the inside.
When restoring older cars, you´ll find the corrosion is worst at places where those water holes have been closed by dirt / leaves or other (nothing worse than closed water drain pipes from the sunroof - it can have A-pillars rot away in no time).
Just clean away the gunk when it comes (I have some at the sills from my doors) and hope that it seizes sooner or later.
Although the VW Golf MKII was legendary for having wax (gunk) dripping out of its rear hatch for YEARS. You´d see some 10 year old Golfs running around with still fresh wax dripping out of the hatch. Now that´s what I call rustprrofing

I got this on my bumper also. I tried bug and tar remover, but it didn't clean it off. The "goo off" that you can get at Home Depot, is it safe to use on the paint?
What else can you use to get the gunk off?
