When I made appointment this week to have oil change, 6,000 km, SA told me they have to perform a software update. I assumed it was the September update that has been posted here and Bimmerfest and I was going to post results. SA told me it would take approx 1 hr. and that I could wait for it. When I got there today, she said it would take approx. 5 hrs and gave me a loaner car. I also asked if the Red Light (Clowns Nose) could be programmed to flash when the doors are locked. She said she would find out, but she had never heard about doing this before. When I got back to get the car, I was informed no update was performed as the car didn't require one. I asked for and received a copy of the Service Information Bulletin they were referring to. It is as follows: Engine Electrical 12w 09 05 which supersedes S1 61 82 05 SUBJECT: Program Control Units - OBD Interface E90 3 Series Sedan She told me this had been performed before I took delivery. They have never heard about a September Software Update. Why the car had to be there for 5 Hours is a mystery. She also told me there is no LED in the Clowns Nose and when I asked how it works with the alarm system, she said they have to replace the Rear View Mirror. (you can see the LED in the red housing) At least the Oil Change was performed at $125.00 CDN Sure doesn't give one confidence in their service department. I have never met a knowledgeable SA yet (Chrysler, BMW, Acura) I will keep watching this board and E90 Board and when the upgrade is confirmed to be at the Canadian dealers, I will call them with the Service Information Bulletin Number, I hope!!

There is an LED inside the clown nose. It can be activated when you put the alarm on...I do not know for sure if you can have it activated without installing the alarm.
But your dealer is definitely no good....you have to look for a better one! Good luck!!!

I'd the same programming updated "Program Control Units - OBD Interface" as yours. It supposes took 80 mins but left the car overnight eventually. I didn't ask the Spet software upgrade but I asked the same question for Clowns Nose, but got a different answer....
He said it will not flush even if you've the alarm and the alarm is on. It will flushes if the alarm was triggered!?
