Ever wonder how BMW name their cars? For a very long time the first digit is for product line, the last 2 digit is the engine displacement. However this trend seems to be off 'a little' before, with the rollout of 2.5L 323i... even by then I thought they just tried to roundoff the digit to make things easier. All until the introduction of E90 325i....
Here's what it says in brochure I got under 325i:
"3.0-liter dual overhead cam (DOHC), 24-valve inline 215-horsepower 6-cylinder with composite magnesium-aluminum engine block and VALVETRONIC system"
With a newly design 3.0L engine, shouldn't that call 330i instead of 325i?
Now let's look at the engine for 330i:
"3.0-liter dual overhead cam (DOHC), 24-valve inline 255-horsepower 6-cylinder with composite magnesium-aluminum engine block and VALVETRONIC system"
Looks exactly the same to me, except it has 40 extra hp... can some experts advise what actually contribute to such huge change? Maybe a more aggressive ECU map?
