Can BMW be far behind with this? If BMW could use BMWAssist to constantly update the maps (as well as POI's) would be pretty cool and definately very useful.
Sounds like the end of DVD driven maps.

BMW offers a similar service in Europe, called "BMW Online". It includes POI service depending on the GPS position of hte vehicle. The newest feature is RSS feeds for news. I don't know if it's available in the USA.

The whole concept of DVD/CD drives in car is disappearing fast. The G35's built-in HD is the first shot across the bow. The G uses a 2.5 inch old fashioned spinner but that's bleeding edge and will certainly end up going away over the next few years. Solid State Disks should start appearing far more frequently in cars soon and with that hopefully wimax or 80211n to transfer files from your pda/cell/laptop/mp3 players.

If BMW implements this, how will the poor guys from NavTeq be able to charge you $200 for a map upgrade?
