The price difference is about $4k more for the 525, assuming you don't get every single option group and try to equip them similiarly.
I'd be sold on a 525. The tradeoff is a nicer car but with less horsepower. Keep in mind though that it's a mechanically identical engine (less 3 stage air intake.) But flash the ECU and you'll come damn close the 330i's power rating.

Drove them both. The size of the 525 was nice, but I hated the handling and thought the acceleration was poor. (I'd driven the Infiniti M35, which utterly outguns either the 3- or 5-Series.)
The 2006 3-Series is almost as big as the 5, and is much more up-to-date. It's faster, less expensive, and is more fun to drive.
