 Just ordered my 325xi!

Hi all. I'm a Bimmer newbie and, of course, a newbie to this forum so I just wanted to say Hi. I put down a deposit Monday on my 2006 325xi (Arctic metallic / Black leather / Aluminum trim / Steptronic).

My 2000 Acura TL got rear-ended badly a couple weeks ago and the other driver's insurance company totaled the car, but only agreed to pay for a rental car for two weeks so I began furiously researching and test-driving new cars. After considering the Infiniti G35x, Lexus IS300, Acura TL, Audi A3, Saab 9-2, as well as a couple lower cost options (My Acura was paid off and I wasn't planning on buying a new car for another three years or so), I decided on the 325. The test drive (on a 325i since the xi's aren't in yet) totally sold me -- I reasoned that if I was going to spend around thirty grand, I ought to just spend a few more and get what I felt was much more enjoyable automobile. In the end, I negotiated the price down to $34,650 ($765 over invoice, as equipped). It should be here in a month and I can't wait! Between now and then, I'll read up on my E90 as much as I can on bimmerfest so I'm ready for her when she gets here!

Congrats - the first thing you will notice when reading around - not to put a damper on things but to set expectations. It sounds to me that it is unlikely you will get the car in a month - maybe closer to 2?

The wait is well worth it. Just to give you an idea of the time on my order:

- 9/2 order placed
- 9/9 order scheduled for production
- 9/12 order went into production
- 9/15 order production completed and awaiting transport.

I am figuring it will take another week or 2 to for the car to be prepped and placed on a ship. After that, its a 3-4 week wait for transport, docking, dealer vehicle delivery and prep.

Hopefully, in the 9th week, you'll have your car :-).

In the mean time, do what I've been doing and show up at the dealership every few days, sit in the E90 and imaging driving it with your eyes closed. I think my dealer client advisor has placed a temporary restraining order on me.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies and the info guys. The timeframe for delivery was and is a big concern for me not only because I'm anxious to get my car, but because starting tomorrow, I have to start paying for the rental car out of pocket.

Of course I took all of this all with a grain of salt since I know the saleswoman's objective was to sell me the car, but what she told me was that the car had already been placed on-order by the dealership; she said I just needed to spec it out before it went into production, which I did on 9/10, and that it would be delivered as soon as four weeks and promised me that it wouldn't be longer than six. Wishful thinking, perhaps, but I'm hoping that turns out to be true -- I'll certainly let you all know when it comes in!

As soon as you get your VIN number from the dealer, you can check the Owner's Circle website to track production, transport, etc. . . . Even though the tracking was a little off (I got the call saying my baby was in before the website said so), I didn't feel like I was harassing my dealership every day. Believe me, I was checking the website every day for weeks!

Oh I've got the production number already and have been checking the Owner's Circle several times daily. It's still "on order" according to the web site, but I just checked the 800 number (800-831-1117) for the first time after reading that it's more up to date, and was happy to hear that my xi is now "scheduled for production."
