Has anyone successfully installed a remote starter in a E90 or have any info on installing one? I believe there might be a problem that would prevent this. |

Yes, EWS.

can you provide more info please? I did a search and found EWS is located under the dash somewhere. Part of the alarm system? Can you provide link to a posting or more info on this. Thanks. I am interested in this too as I want to start the car in the mornings before getting inside.

I wasn't sure if your first message was meant seriously because of its final punctuation.
The electronic drive away protection system (EWS) will do its damndest to not let anyone start the engine without a transponder-equipped key. This has proven to be a quite effective at reducing theft and in some countries you'll lose some of your insurance if you defeat it.
I understand people still do so that they can remote start the car, by leaving a key, or the transponder chip from a key, in the steering column or somewhere nearby.
Does that answer your question?

Almost every car sold today has coded keys and leaving the chip hidden in the car has been done for many years. I have been told that there are other issues with installing a remote starter specifically in a 2006 E90. Has anyone successfully installed one in this specific vehicle?

yes, i believe it is an option offered by dealers in europe. i don't think it's remote start though, from what i understand it's just auxillary heating unit to heat interior only and not the engine. is this what u are looking for as an alternative to remote start? however they don't sell it in the us because of liability issues, maybe u could order one from euro and install it urself. that's what i am thinking about doing
