I don't remeber reading any posts on this but, I've noticed that all the shifters have the aluminum trim, even when the interior is trimed with walnut or poplar. To me it looks sort of silly to have the wood trim then an aluminum shifter. Any other opinions?. Does anyone know if you can order it to match or is there plans to make it match.
Would make a good aftermarket mod for a manufacturer, looking for business.

You can buy the BMW wood shifter...which I'll probably do. My X5 had the wood shifter to match, and while I agree that it looks strange to have aluminum and wood, I've found the main reason to change. That thing gets HOT! The wood will not be as scorchingly hot in the sun as that "aluminum."

I'm planning on picking up a black leather shifter from an e46 zhp. I had a wood shifter in my 330 and every now and then it'd get a little slippery. Not fun when you're trying to make a quick 2nd - 3rd shift.

Yeah, you can get the wood shifters in the accessories catalog. Also, I think they have wood e-brake handles too, maybe even some other stuff, can't remember.

I bought the matching wood (walnut) shifter. I am very glad that I did - it pulls the interior together nicely (IMHO).
