X5 vs Land Rover
Spotted an accident today at a 4 way intersection. The first thing I saw was a Land Rover near the curb in the grass. It looked like it'd flipped a few times on it's way to rest. I am uncertain if the crushed side was from impact or the flip.
Two ambulances were carting away people. I do not know from which cars they were.
As we neared the intersection, we saw a black '04 (or greater) X5. It was three lanes away from the Land Rover, sitting square in the middle of the intersection. Every piece of sheet metal was missing from the windshield forward. The engine block was titled one way. Both front tires looked flat. The force of the impact flipped the sideview mirrors forward. The front drivers door was open and not dented or bent. In fact, from the windshield back, it looked like a regular X5 (with jacked up mirrors).
Who is to say that if the impact was reversed, the X5 might have also flipped. But this was the reason that we opted for an X5 for my mother in law in '01 and for the arrival of our child in '04. With all respect for the trauma of the situation, it was comforting passing through that intersection in an X5 with a baby seat secured in the back.

It feels like a BMW should feel like even though it is a SAV, which means it has the handling, steering, brakes and all the other BMW traits that have made me stay with BMW for many years which helps the driver avoid accidents in the first place. And then if the accident does happen; Airbags, Seatbelt Pretensioners, and how the system unlocks the doors, turns on hazard flashers and interior lights and cuts off the fuel pump to help the passangers safely escape from the accident. That driver was lucky that they were driving the BMW that day. I love my Bimmers

I've been in a rollover in a Land Rover before and they handle it well. All of those who were belted came out unscathed...those who weren't took a trip in the ambulance but were okay.
| | Reply » X5 vs Land Rover | heh... i got hit by an old grand cherokee going at bout 60-70mph, while i was waiting at a red light, dead stopped... car hits my butt, bounces off... when i finally figure out what went on, the cherokee bursts into flame... and starts exploding.... pretty crazy sight... and i had to go save the passenger in the cherokee cuz the driver seemed pretty out of it, very uncoordinated... so yea.... x5 is the bomb diggity... i couldnt start the car though because of the safety system on the x5, my back bumpers was saggin on the floor, but im sure the car woulda kept on going if not for the safety features...
