I put a post on here a couple weeks ago about my friend's 325 crapping out and dealership saying it was his fault. Someone put up a post saying they had very similar symptoms and it was a camshaft sensor that was bad.

After having the car towed to another dealership and having more tests run, it turned out to be an exhaust camshaft sensor that needed replacing, along with a reflash for the ECU. My friend did not over-rev his motor, nor was it saddled with any huge defect from the factory, just a sensor.

I wanted to thank you guys and specifically whoever put up that post, I have always been able to get the (esoteric) info I need from this site, which is much appreciated.

That's awesome!

You should send a message to that previous dealership and tell them how idiotic they all are.

And you should complain to BMWNA about that previous dealership! I took my car to one shop and they said - "nothing wrong - it's supposed to do..." and then took it to another shop that said - "We're amazed it made it here with all the warnings and red flags in the computer". Not all repair centers are equal.

Is this the downshifting from 6th to 3rd issue that you posted before? How did you come about towing the car to another dealer?

Had the service dept told you that you needed a new motor, I would have wanted to back that up with some evidence.

I would figure that your friend must have gotten the regional service advisors into this discussion. If he didn't already, I would file a complaint with BMWNA about the initial diagnosis....and if you get a customer sat survey...you know which circles to fill in.
