A3 vs. 325i
Anyone driven both to compare?
I'm going to go drive an A3 today for fun, and to see how the DSG tranny is.

If you are getting an auto, I'd say the A3 is better since it has the DSG. I test drove the DSG and the manual A3 and the DSG was cool, but I still preferred the manual tranny.

Did notice a hint of turbo lag at a standstill and an interesting "muffle" sound when you change gears. Instant change of gears btw with no head lurching, and no need to let off throttle. Seemed to handle like a go-kart on rails, and probably not as "solid" as 325i---however that would be preferable to me. 325 seems super heavy feeling to drive to me and not as "get up and go". Funny how both are very similar in weight---yet feel very different.
Interior is sporty and nice, and imho much better than an E90 (not boring). Seats were very comfortable, although a tad small because I am driving a 540i normally. That said, wish the car had power seats to really dial it in--the "jack" to move seat up and down is a joke. Also didn't see if they have traction control or not--i'm guessing not in order to get folks to pony up for quattro later this year. Steering wheel also was thin (again, I have M steering wheel which is abnormally large, so not sure if this is normal). Didn't sit in back seat, but looked fairly spacious, but the problem may be with headroom back there. Trunk for a hatchback was surprisingly big.
Drove an A3 with Sports Package, DSG, cool double sun roof, and xenons---think it stickered at 31k
I've heard you can chip this thing already to 250hp/290tq so I probably wouldn't go for 3.2 quattro which will be too expensive for this kind of car, and way to heavy I bet.
Gas mileage is rated 25/31 which is super nice these days in pricy CA. DSG is both faster and more fuel efficient from what sales guy told me btw.

The E90 interior has that high end furniture feel. Audi fit and finish is tops in the biz. I am thinking of trading in my 323i for the A3, DSG sounds much better than steptronic.
Hey... didn't you get an M3? How are you liking it?
| | Reply » A3 vs. 325i | I was sold on the A3.... until it came to work out the numbers. No lease available = no tax break for me. No good there. The DSG is the cats A$$, make the smg look like an old atari video game! It is smooth fast and efficient. The motor is very technical and the chassis is very tossable, like my MINI on roids! I went with the E90 b/c in the long run it was cheaper, I was able to lease it and write it off for some nice tax savings. Also the depreciation on the A3 is insane, hence the reason they will not lease it. There are also rumors it may be pulled out of the US market because sales are no as projected and they can sell the cars hand over fist in other markets. Nicely equipped the A3 is at arounf 31k w/o quattro. It is priced as the A4 was prior to this year. A little high priced for a hatch IMHO. Nice car but expensive!
