I made the mistake of playing with the E90 configuration software and I found the lemon yellow/black interior combination that is not listed for sale in the US. Needless to say I really like the combo and then I compounded my mistake by showing it to my wife. So now my questions:
Any way to special order that color?
If so, would you need to get it through ED?
Import it from Canada?
or the more likely option, choose another color.

In theory BMW can provide you with any of the interior colors that are available in the 3 Series in other countries. You need to ask your dealer to do a "special order". However, many sales people don't want to be bothered with the additional effort that is required on their part for a special order so they just blow you off by telling you that it's not possible.
In the past you needed to place an order before BMW NA would tell you if they would do the "special order" and if there would be a cost. My guess is that this is still true but I can't tell you the current policy.

I ordered a Canadian-spec interior for my 530i in 2001 and got it -- on ED -- , but it was a major struggle. You're best to place the order through a well known dealer, ask them to plead your case, and when all else fails, you fax the ED desk yourself.

Any of you insiders have a guess about this ever being a standard option for the US market?
It seems from this board at least that it would be a popular option.
I emailed this question on BMWUSA's site and was told that it won't likely ever be available, but I know they have to give the standard line.
It seems anything would be possible if there was enough consumer interest.
