I'm new to this site so forgive me if it's already been covered, but on a trip to Germany last week I noticed that the new 3-series has clear front turnsignals versus the orange ones on the US models. I don't understand why, clear looks so much better,I assume they will introdice them over future model years but I dont intend to wait for that. Same difference between US spec 5-series and M5. I drive a 545i right now, a company car, am looking to get a 3 for myself. How hard is it to get euro-spec lights & turn signals, are they available in the aftermarket? Thanks -- J

Actually the law requires you to have amber front corner reflectors and marker lights...... so the clear wouldnt be legal in the US....or at least not here in Oregon. It may be one of those federal motor vehicle mandates.

It may be one of those federal motor vehicle mandates. | It is a federal requirement by the Department of Transportation (DOT) for all cars sold in the US. Technically clears are fine (see E46 coupes) but they must emit an amber light plus they must have an amber reflector (again see E46 coupes).

hm that's possible, good to know. I doubt such a law applies over here on the east coast though cause bmw did the same with the current-gen 3-series. until a couple of years ago the indicators were amber, then they made them clear as part of the sport package. It's possible they will do the same for the 07 model year, just making us wait for no apparent reason

They were available abroad.

Only if they can somehow make clear plastic reflect the color amber.
