I can't decide my next car. I have an 02 540i and haven't found anything that I think improves on what I have. Just curious if anyone on this forum has made the change and what you liked and disliked about the move to a new 3 series.

Thanks | I just turned in my '02 530i for a 330i E90. In terms of ride quality and comfort/luxury, the 530i is a very nice car. However, it's lacking in the sportiness dept.(IMO). On the other hand, I love the E90 because it offers a nice blend of luxury, performance and sportiness (depending on how you build out the options). I have no regrets about downsizing to the E90.

How much of a difference have you noticed in size from your 02'? I thought the E39 was very close (at least int terms of the exterior) to the E39?
I'm in the process of "downsizing" from an E60 to an E90. Basically for the same reason matrix1 indicated ... sportiness!

I was in the same quandry with my 2001 530i. When I first drove a new 330i I was absolutely floored by the car's handling, steering feel and engine note.
Weeks later, I went on another test drive and got to take it out on the freeway. While the handling didn't disappoint, the small-car instability made me rethink my interest in the car. Sure the E39 doesn't handle as well, but the build quality, the ride quality, the comfort, and the smoothness made me think twice.
I'm waiting a little longer before I make a move, but I suspect I'll probably get another 530i, hopefully after BMWNA decides (if ever) to import the M-sport package.

I went from an X5 to a 330i. It's certainly smaller, but it handles better and still has enough interior room for me to not feel claustrophobic. I also used to have an E39, and the driving position feels like there is more room. That's one of the reasons I got rid of the 525i for the X in the first place.
