 adding comfort access post-purchase

Is there any way to add comfort access to my car (that I have already purchased)? I figure it's a long shot, but i really want comfort access; it would make life so much eaiser, but I already have my car.....is there anyway the dealer can install this feature for me?

From what I've read in this forum, Comfort Access cannot be added later. It is a factory-installed option. But I'm sure for the right price it can be done .

Nothing is impossible.

You would need a new key set - which would include a new ignition, door locks, glovebox locks, trunk locks and remote recievers.
You would need a new wiring harness, which would require your entire car to be taken apart, and have all the wires replaced.
You would need the proximity sensors installed into each door, and the 3 sensors inside the car
You would need a new rear windsheild fitted with the comfort access antenna's.

And I'm sure I've left some things out.

So although it's not impossible to retrofit it, it would probably be easier and cheaper to just trade in and buy a car with comfort access!!!

1. I don't think you would need a new key set - the actual key is removable from the fob so could be re-used
2. Since this has been in the works for quite a while and available on other models my guess is the wiring has been retrofitted fro a while so I'd have my doubts about that.
3. I agree - You would need the proximity sensors - 12 inside I believe.
4. Not sure about the rear windshield

1. You do need new keys. The Ca keys are slightly thicker than the non-ca keys
2. Each car gets a wiring harness especially made for that car... Quoted from the famous E90Fleet from e90post.com after his factory tour
"First is the wiring harnesses, each is custome made for each car ( thats why you have a cutoff date for changing your order "
3. and 4.
"The system basically has 3 transmitters , 1 external reciever and 3 Internal recievers. 1 in each front door, 1 for the boot ( Trunk for our USA friends ) and 2 in the passenger compartment and one in the boot . And 1 reciever in the rear windscreen."

There you have it...
You go ahead and retrofit it...let us know how it works.

Ps. You would also need new door handles with the sensors inside them to lock and unlock.

"When you put your hand in between the door handle and the door, that doorhandle senses you and sends a request to you key fob asking for its ID code, the key fob then sends it and it is recieved by the reciever in the rear window which forwards it to the car access computer. If the ID code is correct it unlocks the door."

Oh yes...and you need to get BMW to reprogram your computer.... :-) GOOD LUCK!
