I got a 2006 325i Titanium Silver in May with Steptronic, and so far am loving it. However, I am having an issue with the oil consumption. My car currently has ~3000 miles on it and has already consumed 3 quarts of oil. The oil lights first came on about 3 weeks after I got the car, then came on AGAIN 2 weeks after that. I contacted my dealer and was told that it's normal for BMWs to consume a quart of oil every 700 miles! Is this really true? It sounds absurd to me and I do not know whether to believe them. Can anyone help me with this? Many thanks

My salesrep told me to expect high oil consumption in the beginning, but that it would stabilize later. However, I did not experience this yet, I got 1900 km on it and the oil is still full. Maybe this has to do with being careful not to rev the engine too high during the break-in period?

Sounds like it's using too much oil to me. Mine used a half a quart during the 1st 3000 miles and hasn't used any since. I also didn't follow the break-in instructions in the owners manual right to the letter either. (I subscribe to a modified version of the motoman break-in method. Non-synthetic oil for the 1st 1,500 miles or so, and not quite so agressive on the RPMs right at 1st.)

we had a e90 with 3500 miles and not a drop of oil used. your car uses to much oil, not normal.

That sounds like a LOT of oil consumption.... is it burning off or just thickening? Oh crap you can't even tell b/c NO dipstick. I wonder if it has to do with the engine block being porous and the oil is filling some of those up? I have never heard of that much oil consumption before, not like you are lubing a turbo or super charger.... Anyone else have this issue? If it is burning off it could be the piston rings are not right and didn't set properly during break in. I had some questions about this engine before but have not heard many complaints... just a weird setup with the metal and NO dipstick..... Best of Luck!

Would having to add oil before the oil change service qualify under the free maintenance plan?
