I have on order and expecting soon, a 325 sport with manual.I like the feel of the manual but I am wondering if the start off assist helps much, on the hills.Any comments from manual bmw drivers.thanks..

SOA works as expected. Once one gets used to the timing of brake, clutch, and gas you can start with no rollback or as much rollback as you want. If you are bothered by electronic "help" messing with your timing ... then you may not like it. I am confident I could parallel park on a steep hill with no fuss.

Actually seems to work pretty well. I've been driving manual all my life so I really haven't had much problems even on hills. Nevertheless they have done a nice job of making it transparent in operation. It never interupts a smooth takeoff.

It's absolutely brilliant!
I can't think of why you'd want to roll backwards but if you do you can either take your foot off the brake before clutch and shift or you can first clutch-shift-release brake and then wait about 3 seconds...the brakes release automatically. It also works if you need to go in reverse uphill.
It's an incredibly awesome feature.

It is really good especially on a very steply hill or ramp to a parking.

It works as designed, it holds your brakes for about 2 seconds after brake pedal release. My wife likes the feature. Our 325 has it and personally I wish I could turn it off when I drive. I tend to dislike it and find it somewhat annoying, since I have been driving cars with maual gearbox for few years and I personally don't need it even on most inclines. If the hill is very steep just use the e-brake, but it takes some finese and even more of foot, hand eye coordination than regular driving.
