Does anyone here know if it matters how old the garage door is in order to program it to the home link? I think ours is from the mid 80s and I wanted to know if it would work...???

You can go here for instructions: http://www.homelink.com/training/train.taf
I don't recall the exact instructions, but they are posted on this forum somewhere...

The homelink will catch the signal and you're good to go. If you have one of the multi-signal openers like I do it's a bit tougher. In my case I had to get up on a ladder in the garage and locate the transmitter button on the large opener unit. It was a red button on the back of the unit behind the light. Basically you press this button then you have about 30 seconds to go to the homelink and press the button to try and capture the signal. Hopefully you get it the first try. But I don't think you'll have a problem, my door opener was made in the late 80's.
