hi this is my first post. i had a great car i just turned back in a 06 525 i . one of the best cars i owned. it was a lease i only drove it 6k in 14 month's . i am looking to buy and older 3 or 5 series with about 90k on it..i do not have one picked out. i am a mechanic . but not a tech or practing one.. i can do most stuff. are these cars hard to work on. are parts super high..how id denpablity when these car's get over 100k in mile any advise what to look for. i really want a nice 94-96 3 or 5 bob/philly   |

I am no expert but it sounds like the mid 90's BMW 6 is very durable. Plus there are plenty of parts available for them (OEM replacement and hop up). If I recall, OBD-II started in 96 or 97. That makes it more difficult to diagnose and hop up unless you have proper equipment. I still see many 88-99 3 series (E30 & E36) that see hard track use so they must be reliable. Avoid the early V8s for sure (block problems).
I would still expect higher general costs compared to Toyotas or GMs. Brake pads, rotors, and other normal maint items are more costly even if lasting as long.

thanks for the answer. i realise that it will cost more to fix then . gm and toyota's . just want to learn a little as i just got out of my lease 06 525i . great car . only put 6k miles on it in 1.5 years. i drives 1 p/u and 1 -toyota 4-runner. and i want a nice car to replace my 5. without spending alot of money as i sometimes park on the strret and the 5 was never parked on the street. city life suck's for car's. i was thinking of spending aroung 5-8 k for a nice used car. in phila . their are alot of them.
