iDrive in different languages?
okay, first off, I DID do a search, but couldn't find anything really, so before anyone says anything, I did look. Have mercy on a relatively n00bish Bimmer driver too, yeah? so yeah, is it possible to change the iDrive/Nav language to something other than the pre-programmed French or Spanish? Are those two, plus English of course, the only languages that are available for the US models? Is it possible to maybe upload or unlock other languages, like German maybe? I know it's not necessarily imperative, but it'd be a cool trick nonetheless, I think, heh | | Reply » iDrive in different languages? | Quote: okay, first off, I DID do a search, but couldn't find anything really, so before anyone says anything, I did look. I am guessing the OS is installed, along with language-specific content, on a programmable flash ROM with a file system similar to your computer at home. Like an iPAQ with a bigger screen. So it should certainly be 'possible' but finding a dealer with the equipment 'and' the language versions will likely be a challenge. Try making friends with a German BMW dealer maybe? Or better yet, find out who wrote the software for the iDrive and buy them a few beers
Of course, with the right expertise, it could probably be copied off, hacked and copied back in. But I would guess that would void your warranty
