 Snow tires for 325xit

I have a 325xit on order with sports package and upgraded wheels -- the double spoke (Styling# 161) light-alloy wheels, 17 x 8.0 front, 17x 8.5 rear; 225/45R-17 front, 255/40R-17 rear performance performance tires. I am planning on buying a dedicated set of snows and wheels, something which I've done for all my AWD vehicles (including Volvo XC and Sienna AWD van) given the amount of snow and ice time I spend in the car. My first question is whether anyone has or is planning on purchasing snows, and if so, what wheels and tires are you using. Second, instead of purchasing the upgraded 161 wheel and tire package, I could use the standard rims (style 156 - 16" wheels) for my snows (selling the tires), and purchase a pair of 18" wheels and tires that come on the 330i sports package (style 162 - 18 inch wheels). Does anyone know whether the 325xit will accept the style 162 - 18" inch wheel, and whether there are any issues with brakes, wheel well, etc, that may prevent the use of the 162 with the car. And finally, does anyone know the price of a set of 162 with and/or without the tires that come with the 330xi performance package (225/40 R18 F and 225/35 R18 R).

The 330i SP wheel is ungodly heavy. Do you really want to slow your car down, when a typical lightweight wheel/tire combination will save EIGHTY (80) POUNDS?

I did not know about the weight issue. I guess the alternative is purchase another 18 inch wheel -- not a BMW wheel.

I have a related question that would also apply to your situation. I am also buying a 325xiT and am considering purchasing the upgraded sport package double spoke wheels with performance tires. I would, of course, need dedicated snow tires/wheels since the performance tires can't been driven in snow (I live in NY).

Because the 325xiT does not come with a spare tire, it seems that you would need run-flat winter tires. Gary of Tire Rack says he is uncertain if there will be run-flat winter tires in the right size (or maybe at all). My salesperson has pointed out that Bridgestone seems to sell a set. Anyone have information on the availability of winter run-flats that would fit the 325xiT?

Dunlop makes the M3 sport snow tire in a 16 & 17 inch runflat, I currently have them on my Cooper S for the winter also runflat, and plan on using them on the E90, they were superb in the snow and actually drove well without snow! The AWD cars also have the option of all season tires not just the performance tires like the RWD FYI. I attached a Sticky that has the info on the packages for you!
