Does anybody have any experience with Bluetooth connectivity between E90 and XDA II or MDA II Pocket PC? Imate is my primary phone/messaging device and I hope I can get it to work with E90. I'm running MS 2003 SE. Picking up the car via ED in June and staying in Europe for 4 weeks - gotta have a phone !! |

I just got a new BMW 530D. Supposedly the BT option makes it "universal" (the manual says so) but this is far from true.
The electronics in the car are impressive, as are the sound quality and the wheel drive "hands free" options and buttons, but they are useless if your phone (or the car itself) refuses to connect.
I read that most of BMW Bluetooth equipped cars are plagued with problems, but BMW buys the BT technology from someone else, not sure of the name right now.
A $200 Parrot system does everything right on the first try, while a $1200 car option does.... nothing. But the Parrot sound and mic quality is so..., well...., ejem..., "poor"
Having the BT and handsfree options installed by the manufacturer is a nice touch in a new car. (Very good functions and integration) Unfortunately you discover that the BT doesn't work when you receive the car (there is a wait list for custom ordered cars here).
Anyway, I read also that many other cars are having the same problem: incompatabilities among BT phones and pre-installed handsfree sets, Mercedes to name another. Just get a money back garantee before you order!
Good Luck
PD to name a few phones: Ericsson T68, Sony Ericsson P800, Siemens S55, XDA II, ALL of them work half the way with pre-installed BT HandsFree systems. (XDA II does NOT connect at all)[font=Comic Sans MS][size=7]

Anyone else had any luck with i-mate phones - specifically SP3i. I am doing ED in Nov on an E90 - will be interested to see if the phone works
I inadvertantly found that it will connect to a 2005 X5 - I was helping a mate with his sync up and found that mine synced. Going to try the whole deal on it - phone book and all - I'll let you know if I have any success.
Hey HUGME - seeing many E90's back home?

I ended up getting the Ericsson T68i for my ED trip - it worked very well, the pairing with the car takes few minutes, depending on the size of your phone book. Imate Pocket PC was recognized by the car and vice versa, but that's as far as it went - no phone book transfer, no call transfer, etc. Recently I have upgraded the radio stack on Imate, and it includes extended support for bluetooth handsfree profiles. Can't test it though as the car is on the boat right now. I'll have an update in 4-5 weeks.

Thanks for that - how awas the trip?
The i-mate SP3i that I have supports both Handsfree and Headset and also OBEX which I read somewher on a post was a requirement for full BMW functionality through BT.
We'll see I guess

Thanks - the trip was awesome. This was my 3rd ED; watch for a write up in the ED section soon, I need to find some time to process and downsize some pics.
