How much to offer for initial quote on ED 325xi?

Hello everyone,

I have a negotiation question. I'm going to start sending out my offers to two dealerships in upstate new york for an ED 325xi with sports package and xenon. I was wondering at how much over invoice should i start my negotiation? $500? $750? $1000?

I don't want to lowball them so hard that they simply just forget about me and reject me. I also want to keep a decent rapor with them as well for return customers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for a good deal on the car, like whatever average is over invoice that the cars have been selling for. So i just need a base price to start the negotiations from. Thank you.

Have you test drove the xi models?

Are you planning on buying a car without even test driving it?

I would assume the xi models will be more lethargic when compared to the i counter parts b/c of the added weight steel frame and xdrive components.

If I were you, I would just wait until they have it in the dealership so you can test drive it.

I'd recommend a $1000 as the AWD are pretty popular back East and I haven't seen any one get a below $1K over invoice deal on it yet.

I'd say, go a little below what you'd like to pay. They go high, so you go low- that's how the game is played. I don't think you'll necessarily 'insult' them with an offer. It's their job to get the car for as much as possible. As long as they aren't losing money on the deal I don't see why not

I have test driven the 330i. I live in Texas so i can't testdrive an xi. All i know is that i'm a diehard BMW fan. I need a four wheel drive car for the snow. I don't mind getting the xi even if it is a "bit lethargic."

Thanks for the tips. I will send my initial offer out for around 750 above invoice. Really appreciate the boards guys!

It is going to be hard to negotiate down from MSRP on the XI in NY. Talking to some dealers in my area they are getting MSRP, very high demand and they can sell them for that so they do not have to budge the car sells itself as I was told, the I is more easily negotiated. Many have early allotments already spoken for. I wish you the best of luck.

EDIT: Just realized you are doing an ED... You should have no issues negotiating unless early XI ED cars are coming out of allotment. Try Carbone in Utica, they are a site sponsor, also look in the ED forum, post there as you will recieve more help on ED stuff in that forum than in the regular E90 forum. Work from invoice up... be fair in the initial offer, expect to save ~10%+ off of us MSRP. Best of luck again!
