Wow! Style 162's are HEAVY
I just swapped the front and rear wheels to see if the 255's fit up front. They do quite easily, and I drove around, hit bumps, cornered hard.. no rubbing problems at all. However, I noticed that the tire/wheel combo seemed pretty heavy. I assumed it would be so, but I did my unscientific bathroom scale test. It seems the tire wheel combo weights are as follows: Front 61 lbs (Style 162 with 225/40/18 Bridgestone RE 050A) Rear 63 lbs (Style 162 with 255/35/18 Bridgestone RE 050A) I mentioned in a thread yesterday that I hoped to lose 20 lbs a corner, when I'm participating in driving events (autox and driving schools), by going to a different wheel and tire combo. Well, I have gotten a set of Kosei K1's, and was going to mount either some Azenis or R compounds on them. I already have the Azenis up in the attic, and the wheels are in the garage... Here's the weights if I mated that pair: Front 39.5 lbs (16.5 lb wheel, 23lb 225/45/17 Azenis RT 115) Rear 40.5 lbs (16.5 lb wheel, 24lb 245/45/17 Azenis RT 115) So... unless air weighs a lot , I will save 21.5 lbs in the front, each corner, and 22.5 lbs in the rear, each corner!!! That's if I mounted those tires, which are known to be fairly heavy. However, I want more tire than 225's up front. I think I may either get some R compounds, which weight about the same as the Azenis 245, or use four 245 Azenis' on the four corners. I'll still save 20.5 lbs in front, each wheel, and the same 22.5 lbs on each corner in the rear! Thinking about what tires to use now... Better make up my mind soon! I just thought of another thing... Since the weight gain between the e46 and e90 is a published 80 lbs, I just negated that amount, plus a bit! One other thing... That stock rear sway bar is teensie in diameter. Looking at how it mounts, I can't ever see aftermarket sways being done, as it bridges over the differential. So, unless you feel like dropping the diff, you aren't getting it out or getting a new one in there. I'm surprised how flat the car is with such a puny anti-roll bar. | | Reply » Wow! And how big is the front sway? | The whole underside of the car is shrouded, much moreso than the e46, so I couldn't see the front sway. The rear sway attaches to a strut that runs down and forward, from the body to the subframe. Also, wish I had've thought to take a pic of the rear suspension, but it's far more complicated that in the e46, and looks very much like a complicated front suspension. Maybe that's the reason for the smaller sway bar?

I can't believe those wheels/tires weigh so much!
This has to be what's slowing the car down in some of the cases that have been posted here. The Azeni's are obviously not run-flats though, right? I take it you will just use the 'fix-a-flat' stuff in case you run into a problem?
Please post some pics when you get the new wheels on!
