Motor Trend: 330i vs. G35 vs. A4
The three tested were all automatic sport-package models. The 330i received gushing praise, with the only area nitpicked being its $47k-plus pricetag. The g was praised for its bang-for-the-buck as usual (as if value is important to luxury car buyers) and once again was slower than previously tested models (proof once again this hp increase was 2005 was likely on paper only). The A4 3.2 wasnt even a contender, getting slaughtered in every category.
Even in auto form, the 3 was faster to 30, 40, and 50, and was only one tenth slower to 60 (6.6 vs. 6.5), and neck and neck in the quarter mile (14.7@95.1 vs. 95.9). It handled better, setting a "rwd sedan slalom record" and stopped in the same 112 ft as the g.
Those who need the validation of comparison test victories, you'll be happy to know the 330i won, and they advised to the competition to try real hard next time.

Then explain the 13k monthly units moved by Acura and Infiniti. Obviously, as this is the entry-level class, value is a big factor for most people.

Ed | Hardly. Im just sharing new news eddie. I dont or or think something is magically superior because a few biased journalists pick it for first place-unlike SOME.

Obviously, as this is the entry-level class, value is a big factor for most people. | You get what you pay for. Those units could easily be explained by the same market that buys their Honda & Toyota equivalents: THAT group of people just wants to spends less than they would on a German car. What one person values in an Infiniti, he may not value in a BMW and vice versa. I could easily spend more on a base MB C350, but I don't VALUE what the MB gives me. If you want to save money, shop @ Wal-Mart, but not for $35K+ sport sedans;; just penny-pinching at that price level.

The 330i has a few options I could do without, but OPTIONS are what's overpriced, NOT the base car. $15k is not the real difference in price when you just look at the base models. The E90 is better handling, larger & faster than its predecessor for not much more money. That alone is enough for me. Get the G35 if you want the super-saver luxury car.
